Below is a list of our favorite CD shops in Amsterdam...this is where we would go to find stuff we don't have if we weren't able to order it for ourselves. Or something like that.
Back Beat Mostly older jazz, R & B, and blues. CDs and records.
Plaatboef Has a high-quality selection of new and used, heavier on rock than anything else. Has a country-western section.
Rush Hour Local distributor and record shop for soulful house and other DJ-oriented music that is outside our scope.
Fat Beats Hip-hop mecca from Joseph Abajian.
Distortion A smaller, mostly-vinyl store that focuses on beats and indie with a bit of everything else as well.
Boudisque A very good general-purpose CD store, with concentrations in reggae and metal.
Fort van Sjakoo Our upstairs neighbors, featuring a small but truly personal and wide-ranging selection of music with integrity.
Concerto/Get Records The big boys. Concerto has the largest secondhand selection in town, especially useful for sample fodder and exotic trash. Get Records is smaller and has both vinyl and fashionable new CD releases.
