C’est le tango à gogo cet après-midi. Voici qu’I Compani revisite la musique de Gato Barbieri pour le film Un dernier tango à Paris. Loek Dikker signe les réarrangements, en plus de contribuer quelques pièces originales, aux côtés de Bo van de Graaf, directeur de cet ensemble de jazz actuel/cirque. Peut-être le disque le plus accessible d’I Compani, fortement ancré dans le respect du Tango Nuevo, même s’il fait preuve d’audace et d’esprit libertaire (tout à fait convenable, vu le sujet de l’exercice). Un tantinet trop bon chic bon jour pour mon goût personnel, mais les amateurs de tango vont fort apprécier... et se faire doucement tirer hors de leur zone de confort, ce qui est parfait. It’s tango-a-gogo this afternoon.

Translation: Here’s I Compani revisiting Gato Barbieri’s music for the film Last Tango in Paris. Loek Dikker rearranged the material and wrote new pieces, alongside Bo van de Graaf, the leader of this fine avant-jazz/circus music ensemble. This could be I Compani’s most accessible release, as it is deeply rooted in tango nuevo, though it proves to be bold and libertan (something suiting considering the topic). A tad bit to clean for me, but tango afficionados will certainly dig… and get smootly pushed outside their comfort zone, which is a good thing.
